About Chris

Chris has appeared on CBC News, CTV, BBC Radio, CBC Radio, & Voice of America Radio. His long interview on the Brian Combie show covers Gaza, mental health & aid work.

Chris is the President and CEO of the Canadian Peace Museum, a registered charity with a mandate to open a museum by the same name.

Chris is the Principal Consultant of Humanitarian Associates consulting company.

Chris teaches at the University of Toronto's Global Health Education Initiative and has won the Teaching Award of Excellence seven times. He is a Community Fellow at the Dahdaleh Institute for Global Health Research.

Chris writes Stories of Peace, a column in The Bancroft Times. His op-eds have been published in the Globe and Mail (Covid, Gaza), the Toronto Star (Peace, Gaza) and others.

Chris is a co-author and the editor of the Security section of the Oxford Handbook of Humanitarian Medicine. He has a certificate in security management from Red R.

Chris spoke about humanitarain innovation and aid worker wellbeing on the Beyond Aid podcast. Chris blogged for Médecins Sans Frontières.

Chris has spoken for and to the Red Cross and Médecins Sans Frontières and has frequently spoken on humanitarian issues in academic forums.

Chris serves on the board of directors of Proper Support Trust, North Hastings Community Cupboard, and the Canadian Peace Museum.  

He previously served on the board of Médecins Sans Frontières Canada and ALIMA Canada.

Chris is a member of the Community Safety and Wellness Committee of Bancroft Council. 

Chris was a volunteer paramedic for the British Red Cross. 

Chris has worked for Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors without Borders), the Canadian Red Cross, the IFRC, and the United Nations (World Health Organization). 

He has worked in Sri Lanka, Papua New Guinea, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Djibouti, Yemen, Lebanon, Pakistan, Nepal, Canada, England and Türkiye.

Chris was the inaugural director of the Humanitarian Grand Challenge, a platform to support humanitarian innovation.

Chris was a member of the Humanitarian and Fragile Settings Steering Group of The Partnership for Maternal, Newborn & Child Health and served on the Steering Committee of Elrha's Global Prioritisation Exercise.

Since 2015, Chris has taken part in efforts to promote compliance with International Humanitarian Law and protection aid workers and civilians from war.

Chris has led humanitarian disaster simulation training for McGill University's Humanitarian Studies Initiative and the Canadian Consortium for Humanitarian Training.

Chris co-founded kid-E-care  urgent care clinic and was the Operations Manager for Kindercare Pediatrics, Toronto.

He was the director of Public CPR Initiatives for Heart & Stroke.

Chris has written about his own experience of PTSD and advocates for more support for the mental health of aid workers.
